Bio:

Professor Paris practiced criminal law for six years in Chicago, specializing in the defense of white-collar prosecutions. Her scholarly work focuses on reform of the criminal justice system, and she has published a textbook on criminal procedure. Paris is a recipient of the Orlando John Hollis Faculty Teaching Award. After graduation from law school, Paris clerked for Judge Joel Flaum of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Margaret L. Paris has been a faculty member at the University of Oregon School of Law from 1992 to the present. She is also: Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (2002-present); Associate Professor (1998-present); Assistant Professor (1992-1998). The courses that she taught include Advanced Appellate Advocacy, Criminal Law, Criminal Investigation, Criminal Adjudication, Violence and the Law, and White Collar Crime. Awards and honors include Elmer Sahlstrom Senior Fellowship in Trial Advocacy (2005-present); Judicial Sentencing Workshop Grant from the Institute on Criminal Justice (1998-2002); Kenneth J. O’Connell Senior Fellowship in Appellate Judging (1997-1998); Orlando J. Hollis Faculty Teaching Award (1996); Commencement Class Marshall and presenter of the Charge to the Class (1993, 1996, 1997, and 1999) (student-selected honors); University of Oregon School of Law Summer Research Grant (1995); University of Oregon New Faculty Research Grant (1993).
